Recipe
These brownies were made at Highlawn Elementary School, St. Albans, West Virginia during the 1960’s and ’70’s. Always a favorite with the students.
Texas Sheet Cake Brownies
2 cups flour
2 cups sugar
Set aside
Bring to boil 1 cup oil ( I used Canola oil and heated in microwave)
1 cup water
1 stick butter
4 heaping Tablespoons cocoa
Pour this over flour/sugar
Add 2 eggs
Mix well
Add 1/2 cup buttermilk (1/2 c milk + 1/2 tsp lemon juice or vinegar)
1 tsp salt
1 tsp soda
1 tsp cinnamon
Bake in sheet pan (ungreased) 375degrees 10 – 12 min
Icing
1 stick butter
6 Tbsp milk
1 box confectionery sugar = 3 3/4 cups
ICE CAKE WHILE HOT
DELICOUS!!!
